| polished with aluminum compound, after which the shine was knocked down with a 3M brown pad.
I was planning on staying with the original finish. However, the wheels I bought had some paint on the inside of the rims about to flake off. I masked the outside, and touched up the paint on the inside, only to pull some of the clear coat off when I removed the tape. Had I discovered, at that time, what appears to be a match for the OEM Yokohama silver (Nissan Quicksilver Metallic KL2), I would have just repainted them, but by then I had stripped the paint and polished the wheels. And paint AFAIK doesn't stick very well to raw aluminum. As far as polishing goes, if my wheels are typical, this is a difficult process (at least without good polishing technique) as these wheels have quite a rough finish once stripped of paint.
